Pixel art is one of those things that I have wanted to try, but never really got around to doing. Well, that is no longer the case, as I have successfully completed the 256 Points assignment from the DS106 assignment bank. This assignment was to create an illustrated icon of a complex object in a 16×16 pixel space. My original idea was to do an airplane but, upon execution, I found that I could make a pixel image of that quite easily. I wanted a challenge, so I decided to attempt to make a bicycle. This was much more to my liking. It was more difficult, but it was a lot more rewarding when I figured out how to incorporate certain details into the drawing. In the end I think I got most of the components in that I wanted except the bike chain, but I think that would have just cluttered the back half of the bike. I’m very pleased with the final product and I hope I’ll feel confident enough to work on some more sophisticated pixel art in the future.

This is really cool! I hope you continue to work on pixel art
Thank you, Elizabeth. Me too, but I’ll probably have to use something other than Procreate, since the brushes usually want to fill in some of the pixels surrounding the one I tap.
I really like this. It’s so creative and it looks amazing! I did something similar with the “4 lines, 5 dots, 1 curve” assignment and enjoy the minimalist approach to art.
